Fluffy hair, bedhead, messy locks – call it what you will, but there's no denying that tousled hair is a great look for men.

It exudes a cool, effortless vibe and adds texture to your overall appearance. But achieving the perfect fluffy hair can be tricky – too much product, and you risk looking greasy; not enough, and your hair might fall flat.

To help you channel your inner James Dean or Timothée Chalamet, we've put together a short and simple guide on how to get fluffy hair using just a few products and some styling tricks.

The Hair Products & Tools You'll Need

First, you'll need to get all the bits and pieces you need to create your fluffy hairstyle. Use this as a checklist to make sure you have everything before you start.

It's a fairly short list, but it's still worth laying it all out just to be sure.

How to Get Fluffy Hair in 4 Steps

Once you have all your products ready, you can get started on creating your fluffy hairstyle. Follow these simple steps for perfectly tousled locks.

Step 1: Wash Your Hair

Any hairstyle works best on a clean canvas, so start by washing your hair with a good-quality volumising shampoo and conditioner. This will help to add more fullness to your locks, which is key for getting a fluffy look.

You should look for hair products formulated specifically for adding volume, as they will contain ingredients that lift and plump up the hair. Avoid using heavy or oily products, as these can weigh down your hair and make it appear flat.

The Best Volumising Shampoo & Conditioner

Our Thickening Shampoo and Thickening Conditioner are solid choices for achieving fluffy, voluminous hair. These premium products contain natural ingredients that boost volume and thickness from the first wash.

Vitamin B3, Wheat Protein, and Aloe Leaf work to add body and smoothness to your hair, while Gingko Biloba, Red Clover Leaf, and Saw Palmetto target the hormones and enzymes responsible for hair thinning. Together, they provide a powerful formula for thicker and healthier-looking hair.

You won't achieve the same results with lesser-quality or 2-in-1 products. These often contain harsh chemicals and silicones that can damage your hair and strip away its natural oils, leading to breakage and limpness.

Step 2: Apply Styling Product to Wet Hair

After cleansing, hop out of the shower and lightly towel dry your hair. While it's still wet, apply your chosen styling product.

Styling Compound

Our Hybrid Hair styling compound works really well for adding volume and texture to your hair without weighing it down.

We've carefully formulated it with natural ingredients that nourish and protect your hair while providing a long-lasting hold, like Icelandic Bentonite Clay and Organic British Beeswax. The Unrefined Atlantic Sea Salt also helps to boost volume and create natural waves.

Simply take a dime-sized amount and rub it between your palms before evenly distributing it through your hair.

Sea Salt Spray

Sea salt spray is another great option. The salt content helps to add texture to your hair while also providing a lift at the roots.

Our Marine Mist is a powerful blend of Unrefined Atlantic Sea Salt, Pro-Vitamin B5, and proteins that not only style your hair but also strengthen and nourish it. Unlike other sea salt sprays, our mist has a higher density of sea salt, allowing for a more textured and volumised look.

Spritz the texturising spray onto damp hair and scrunch with your fingers, making sure to focus on the roots for added lift.

Step 3: Blow Dry Your Hair Upsidedown

After applying and distributing your styling product, flip your head upside down and blow dry your hair.

The effect of blow drying your hair upside down is that it helps create lift at the roots, giving you a fuller and more voluminous look. If you direct the blowdryer down towards your head, it'll make your hair look flat, so make sure to direct the airflow upwards.

As you're drying, use your hands to move your hair around and scrunch it towards the roots.

If you have a diffuser attachment for your blow dryer, use it for an even more defined and voluminous look. The diffuser will help to distribute the heat evenly and enhance your natural texture.

When your hair is around 90% dry, flip your head upright and switch the temperature setting on your blow dryer to cool. Give your hair a blast close to the scalp, lifting and scrunching it with your hands.

Step 4: Use a Holding Product

Once your hair is completely dry, it's time to add some product for hold as the finishing touch.

You can use the same products as you did earlier on your wet hair to further enhance the effects and results. Both our Hybrid Hair and Marine Mist can be used or either damp or dry hair, making them perfect for this step.

Apply a small amount of the styling compound onto your palms and rub it together to evenly distribute it, or spray the mist onto your hair evenly. Then, work it through your hair starting from the roots to the ends.

Use spread fingers to lift sections of hair and work the product in, as this will help add volume and definition to your style. You can tip your head upside down as you're doing this, too.

FAQs

Can Everybody Get Fluffy Hair?

Yes, a fluffy hairstyle can be achieved on all hair types. Fluffy hair is more to do with the styling techniques and products used rather than hair type, so anyone can try it out.

How Do I Train My Hair to Be Fluffy?

Regularly using a volumising shampoo and conditioner is an easy and effective way to train your hair to have more volume and texture. Products that contain thickening ingredients, like Vitamin B3 and Caffeine, can help boost volume and make your hair look fluffy.

What Haircut is Good for Fluffy Hair?

Mullets work well with fluffy mens hairstyles, as do long fringes and shaggy layers. Typically medium-length and long-length haircuts are better for achieving a fluffy look, but shorter hair can also be styled to appear fluffy with the right techniques and products.

Can Short Hair Be Fluffy?

Shorter men's hair can still be styled to have a fluffy appearance. Blow drying upside down close to the roots can create volume, and using a texturising spray, such as our Marine Mist, can add texture and fluffiness to the hair.

Additionally, a layered cut or adding in some choppy pieces can help to create a fluffier look by adding dimension and movement.

Is Fluffy Hair Frizzy?

Fluffy and frizzy hair are two different things. Fluffy hair refers to a light and airy appearance, while frizzy hair is often associated with wayward and unruly strands.

However, some people may have naturally frizzy hair that can also appear fluffy when styled correctly with anti-frizz products.
